The video game industry has just gotten a little bigger. After surprising the world with Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbbids: Sparks of Hope, titles in which he acted as creative director, Davide Soliani announced his departure from Ubisoft after over 25 years at the developer. Now, the professional is back at it with Christian Cantamessa, lead designer and writer of Red Dead Redemption, to found a new studio: Day 4 Night.
Day 4 Night, as indicated in its official announcement, already has a first game in the works that will bring a new IP to life. Although details are scarce, Soliani describes the studio’s work as “a reflection of everything I’ve always wanted to experience as a player – joy, adventure, poetry, action, wonder, and the pleasure of working with friends.” Bringing this idea to life at the developer is “a lullaby for my soul and a serenade for our industry,” continues the creative director of Mario + Rabbids. “To the magic and madness of creating worlds out of nothing. It’s a story about triumphs, challenges, dreams, to light the way we walk together.”
“When I fell in love with video games at the beginning of my career, I saw the power of this new medium to tell stories never seen before and create worlds that could transform people,” adds Cantamessa. “Day 4 Night is a return to that innovative spirit, to that innocence, to that unrestrained creativity.”
The studio, which already has offices in both Los Angeles and Milan, aims to focus on “delivering deeply sincere and original games that innovate in narrative and design”; considering that Day 4 Night boasts professionals like Soliani and Cantamessa, it’s worth keeping an eye out for their upcoming announcements. After all, we have very little information about the company’s first project and it is expected that its features will be shared over the coming months or years.
Day 4 Night has secured funding for its first game
While details surrounding Day 4 Night’s first experience have not been disclosed, the studio’s leaders have already secured their funding. Specifically, Krafton stands out as the company that has contributed the most to the project; complemented by a participation of Ed Fries, co-creator of Xbox, via 1Up Ventures. In fact, this latter professional has commented that “this is, easily, the most creative thing I’ve seen in a long time.”
