As reported by Reuters in a recent publication, the United States fears that Russia, Iran, and China may attempt to influence the elections taking place on November 5th using artificial intelligence to spread false or divisive information. In the past, Russian agents carried out similar maneuvers by creating fake websites with AI, but now other mentioned countries have also joined. Hence, the U.S. fears Iran’s aggressiveness with its activities related to artificial intelligence and the tactics China might employ to sway American voter intention.

Political violence continues to escalate in the country

According to the annual threat assessment report of the United States, tensions between supporters of Kamala Harris and those backing Donald Trump are likely to grow. As a result, they anticipate that Russia, Iran, and China will employ subversive, criminal, and coercive tactics to undermine confidence in U.S. democratic institutions. Additionally, the same report highlights that violent American extremists pose a threat as dangerous as the use of AI by foreign entities to spread misinformation.

The United States is bracing for a potential disinformation attack that could come from Russia, Iran, or China. They also affirm that such maneuvers are carried out by individuals motivated by issues like religion, gender, race, or anti-government views. Confirming this fear, the U.S. emphasizes the need to focus on artificial intelligence, as it can be maliciously utilized by bad actors.
