Have you ever thought about taking your desktop computer everywhere with you? It may seem unbelievable, but there are stories related to this condition, as a few months ago we found out that a user carried his computer with him to enjoy aerial combat titles on a plane. Additionally, we also told you all the details about the invention of Mikal Bridges, a player for the New York Knicks who spent over 1,000 euros on a portable PlayStation 5.
However, this time a modder has decided to take the situation to the next level by connecting a desktop RTX 4090 to a laptop. This way, he sought to make the most of its virtues, as it is much more powerful than the version focused on this field. Nonetheless, he faced a difficulty that he had to overcome: how bulky and heavy the project would be. And, as noted by the PC Gamer portal in a recent publication, after much ingenuity, he managed to reduce the weight of the device to 6.7 kilos.
68% Faster Than Usual
The desktop version of the RTX 4090 consumes between 450 and 600 W, figures much higher than the 80 to 175 W on average consumed by the laptop version. Therefore, it requires this computer to always be connected to power and, therefore, loses its main virtue: portability. Furthermore, during its peak performance, it can reach temperatures of up to 70 °C, an aspect to which must be added that it has a thickness of 7 cm, which is why it keeps accumulating reasons to be an unadvisable option for portability.
However, opting for a desktop RTX 4090 has allowed him to achieve very high performance. Thanks to it, he has achieved a score of 28,490 in the benchmark Time Spy and a GPU score of 36,426, resulting in a 68% improvement over the computer’s previous performance. Additionally, the system features a Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor, which further enhances the performance. However, if you are looking for a portable option, making the modifications that the modder did despite the device’s improvements serves no purpose.
