It has been almost two years since the release of NVIDIA’s RTX 4000 series, and as a result, many gamers are starting to wonder when the successor will arrive. So far, the North American company has not made much reference to this possibility, but just a few days ago, the CEO of the company revealed that artificial intelligence will be an essential part of their future graphics cards. And, as a leak reports, it seems that this will not be the only revolutionary aspect of NVIDIA’s future GPUs.
As indicated by TechSpot in a recent publication, the anticipated RTX 5090 from NVIDIA could require two 16-pin power connectors. This, in other words, would imply the need for a new power supply, as it could reach 600W of power consumption compared to the 450W of the RTX 4090. In fact, MSI has already released new high-power power supplies that include two 16-pin connectors, a move that many have seen as preparation for future next-generation graphics cards.
Is a new issue with connectors on the horizon?
Although at this point it is not as noisy, the RTX 4090 starred in many news related to how problematic its power connectors were, as they ended up burning out on numerous occasions. However, power supplies like the MEG Ai1600T from MSI not only have 1,600W of power, but also have 80 Plus Titanium certification. Therefore, insiders claim that NVIDIA intends to distribute the electrical load across two cables to avoid the problems it experienced with the RTX 4090.
Thus, acquiring an RTX 5090 could be linked to the purchase of a new power supply, a situation that would increase the price and lead users to spend more than 2,500 euros. At the moment, there are no official details related to NVIDIA’s future RTX 5000 lineup, but many expect to learn several aspects of it during the upcoming CES 2025 scheduled for January. So, when that date arrives, we will likely know everything related to this GPU from the green company.
