Both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Ghost of Yotei have a lot in common besides being set in a feudal Japan in an open world. However, Ubisoft has confirmed some bad news about Assassin’s Creed Shadows that involve a delay of the video game, meaning the French company’s action-adventure game will not be released on November 15, but on February 14, 2025. This means there will be almost three more months of waiting.
Many players, upon seeing the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, have automatically thought of Ghost of Yotei, which was announced a couple of days ago as one of the highlights of Sony’s latest State of Play. Both titles share many similarities, and some think they may cannibalize each other in sales, but that is not the view of Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot. The company’s executive was present during a conference call yesterday, and has pointed out the following to an investor.
“I’d like to say that there is plenty of room for very high-quality games, and those two games can sell very well,” he said (via VGC). Immediately after, Ubisoft’s CFO explained the reasons for the delay. “The goal is to ensure we deliver a fantastic experience, with a focus on the game’s dual protagonist, with two different and complementary gameplay modes, featuring Yasuke and Naoe, in a setting that takes place in feudal Japan and should be really compelling,” he said, although he also stated they want to “polish the game“.
Ubisoft’s latest changes after the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Although PlayStation has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei is the beginning of a franchise that will include several spin-offs, Ubisoft has announced significant changes regarding their two biggest games in this fiscal year. The first thing you need to know is that both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws will soon be released on Steam, the open world starring Yasuke and Naoe will debut on Valve’s store at launch, while Outlaws will arrive on November 23.
However, it has been Star Wars Outlaws that has sold below expectations, but they have a plan to regain players’ trust and attract new buyers. It turns out that from Massive, the development studio, they want to “quickly implement a series of updates to polish and improve the gaming experience, with the aim of reaching a larger audience during the holiday season and positioning Star Wars Outlaws as a solid long-term product.” It should also be noted that Ubisoft will move away from its traditional ‘Season Pass’ model in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and will offer the first expansion for free to anyone who pre-orders the title, which means the 5-day early access period will disappear completely.
